‘Kobe's very good at taking on a challenge’ - proud mum ahead of Australia move

Karen McDonald, the proud mum of Kobe and Jordan, speaks to The Mayo News about Kobe’s upcoming move to Australia to join AFL side St Kilda’s
Mayo winning Sam Maguire was the last great sports story to be told.
One its chief authors was Crossmolina teenage sensation Kobe McDonald.
Helping his team write their names into the history books may be his final act as a Mayo player and Second Captains’ presenter Ciaran Murphy joked that this was the ultimate mic drop before heading to begin a career in the AFL.
“Kobe's very good at taking on a challenge. He asserts himself to that challenge and gives it his best. So we'll see how he gets on, and what will be, will be.”
The Mayo News spoke to his proud mother Karen on the pitch where he honed his skills, after hundreds of friends and clubmates gathered to welcome home triumphant All Ireland Winners and Crossmolina Deel Rovers' players Kobe McDonald, Jordan Flynn and Conor Loftus.
The sense of community glow was impossible not to get caught up in and will no doubt be a warm memory for him as he is set to start a new adventure in Australia.
“Kobe's very good at taking on a challenge. He asserts himself to that challenge and gives it his best. So we'll see how he gets on, and what will be, will be,” Karen said.
More for me
Kobe’s parents Karen and Mayo legend Ciaran McDonald will join him in Australia to “settle him in and make sure he’s all right.”
His mum says that this is more for her as well as for him as “he’s very young.”
“I’d be peaceful and it’d be more for me,” she tells The Mayo News.
Along with brother and fellow Mayo teammate Jordan Flynn, the family’s focus up to now has been entirely on the Mayo’s All Ireland Championship.
“We just concentrated on this. This is all we wanted. This was our focus, and we're going to enjoy it now. We're not going to think of Australia at the moment. It's all about this.”
