A secondary school in Mayo has been recognised at a major national technology event celebrating young innovators across Ireland.
Gortnorabbey, Jesus and Mary Secondary School took home the Podcasting Award at Creative Technology Week, organised by Kinia. The award-winning project, titled “The Gap”, is a student-led podcast featuring school updates and interviews with students.
The Mayo school also received nominations in five additional categories: Mobile Filmmaking, Robotics, Organisation of the Year, Educator of the Year, and TechSpacer of the Year, highlighting the breadth of its students’ digital and creative achievements.
The awards were presented during Kinia’s annual Tech Fest, held on April 25 at Explorium in Sandyford, Dublin. The event drew a record-breaking crowd of over 1,000 young people from across Ireland, all showcasing projects in areas such as creative technology, smart energy, green tech, robotics, filmmaking, and podcasting.
Speaking during the programme of events, Marianne Checkley, CEO of Kinia, added, “We want to extend a huge congratulations to Gortnorabbey, Jesus and Mary Secondary School for their entries, including an incredible podcast.
“It’s fair to say they did Mayo proud, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with students and educators in the future,” she added.
