Hikers in Mayo are being encouraged to take part in the Mountains of Change event this May, with routes including Croagh Patrick
People across Mayo are being encouraged to take part in a national hiking event aimed at supporting survivors of child sexual abuse.
One in Four Ireland has announced the return of its flagship fundraising campaign, Mountains of Change, which will take place on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event — which saw more than 125 hikes completed worldwide and raised over €34,000 — organisers are hoping for even greater participation in 2026.
Participants in Mayo are being invited to tackle some of the county’s most popular outdoor routes, including Croagh Patrick, the Great Western Greenway and the Letterkeen Loop Walk.
The event encourages individuals, families, community groups and workplaces to come together, form teams and complete a hike of their choice, all on the same day, in a show of solidarity.
Funds raised will go towards supporting One in Four’s legal advocacy work and specialised mental health services for survivors.

Organisers said the event offers a unique opportunity to combine physical activity with community engagement and awareness-raising.
Last year, participants from across Mayo took part in hikes at locations including Nephin, Croagh Patrick and Achill, helping to highlight the cause locally.
This year’s campaign aims to build on that momentum, with organisers urging even more people to get involved.
“Together, we can move mountains and create lasting change for survivors,” a spokesperson said.
Registration for the event is free, with participants encouraged to sign up online and begin fundraising ahead of the May date.
Community groups and individuals interested in taking part or supporting the initiative are also invited to contact the organisers directly at roisin@oneinfour.ie.for further information.
