570 houses and 60 apartments were approved in 2025, highlighting growth in Mayo's housing pipeline
A total of 630 new homes were granted planning permission in Mayo in 2025, according to new figures highlighted by Alan Dillon, Minister of State and Fine Gael TD for the county.
The figures, published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), show that 570 of the approved developments were houses, while 60 were apartments, indicating continued housing activity across the county.
Minister Dillon said the figures demonstrate progress in efforts to increase housing supply.
“These figures show 570 of these are new houses while 60 are new apartments, which are moving through the pipeline in Mayo,” he said. “The key focus is now turning these permissions into homes on the ground as quickly as possible.”
He said securing planning permission is a key stage in the development process and that the Government remains focused on removing barriers to construction so approved projects can move forward more quickly.

“Fine Gael’s priority has always been to get more homes built,” he said. “Obtaining planning permission is a crucial step in the process. Government is committed to removing barriers to construction so these projects can move from planning to homes as quickly as possible.”
Nationally, the CSO figures show that the number of homes granted planning permission increased by 7.9 per cent in 2025.
Minister Dillon said the level of activity in Mayo is encouraging and will help support communities across the county.
“Increasing supply in our towns and villages will help to build stronger communities and is vital in tackling housing shortages in many areas,” he said.
While acknowledging that more work is needed to address housing demand, he said the latest figures highlight progress being made.
“There’s more work to do, but these figures demonstrate the progress being made in Mayo and the Government remains focused on increasing housing supply and delivering the homes people need,” he added.
