Mayo native signs with English side Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green's newest signing is Mayo native Luke McNicholas

Forest Green Rovers have today announced the signing of Mayo native, Luke McNicholas on a permanent deal. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has signed from League One side Wrexham.

The Belcarra native started off his career with local side Manulla before joining Sligo Rovers. The shot-stopper had loan spells with Finn Harps and Cliftonville before returning to Sligo in the summer of 2022.

He joined Wrexham in August 2023 on loan before that deal was made full-time in January 2024. Last season, McNicholas went on loan to English side Rochdale where he ended up making nine first team appearances including securing six clean sheets. Unfortunately, injury cut this playing time short.

The club made it to the playoffs in the National league last season and this season they will aim to get promoted to League two.
