They left it late, but the Mayo champions continued their winning form.

A late goal from Jordan Loftus gave Castlebar Celtic another win with his goal after 93 minutes resulting in Celtic Park going berserk on Saturday night.

Newly-promoted Glenhest Rovers who, sit in third place in the table, have made a very positive start to the campaign. They deseve great credit for last night's performance and pushed Celtic all the way, but the team famed for never stopping pulled off another late win. The hoops were made to work hard last week in Ballina and it was the same story Saturday evening when the Mayo kingpins scored late on.

The visitors were well set up throughout the evening and their defensive game plan seemed to work with great effect. Their striker Connor McCarthy came close on numerous occasions as the frequent goalscorer caused Brian Walsh and Ioseph O’Reilly plenty of problems.

Goalless at the break, Celtic were made to work hard with team manager Stevie Gavin and midfielder Oran Groarke both suspended after last week’s red cards. It looked like the points were set to be shared until Dylan Edwards picked out Jordan Loftus who finished in great style. Delight for Celtic as Glenhest seemed to be calling for an offside in the build up.

With ten games played for Castlebar Celtic, it's a one-hundred percent win rate for the current champions who look set to enter a busy period with games in hand coming thick and fast.

A full match report plus reaction from Jordan Loftus will be carried in Tuesday’s edition of The Mayo News.
