Mayo school set for busy spell as teams ready for National and County Finals

Alex Halpin and Malachi Forde who are past pupils of Lankill N.S gave a talk to the current students ahead of the upcoming finals

It’s a busy spell for Lankill National School who will see their students in two sporting finals in the upcoming weeks. The school’s girls soccer team have qualified for the FAI Schools Primary 5’s final which will take place on June the 11th in the home of Irish soccer, the Aviva stadium.

The school which is situated just five kilometres from Westport town will be the sole representatives from County Mayo. The girls most recently conquered all in Connacht where they performed best at the provincial finals which were held in Milebush during the recent sunny spell.

Made up of Fahy Rovers and Westport United players, all will be looking forward to the national finals in Dublin including team coach, Pat Morrison.

The school has set up a go fund me page which can be found which all funds will be going towards travel, accommodation, food and gear costs. All donations are deeply appreciated along with support from local businesses. You can donate by clicking here

The same bunch of girls are in the Cumann na mBunscoil County Final (Gaelic Football) Wednesday (June 4th) at 1.40 in Mc Hale Park. Earlier in the year, the talented Lankill pupils claimed glory in the West Mayo Mini 7’s. The school has just 66 pupils with three teachers but in terms of sporting achievements, the school is certainly performing well. Past pupils of Lankill N.S include Alex Halpin and Malachi Forde who led Rice College to All Ireland Soccer glory in recent months.
