Mayo business scoops glory at the national enterprise awards.

The event took place at the Mansion House in Dublin where Ballina based Mark Birrane took home the award of the best business in the west region. Mark, the founder and CEO of Wondr Jellies came up with a fresh idea some years ago.

The business venture started when Mark was playing League of Ireland soccer with Athlone Town. During the Covid-19 lockdown, Birrane was injured and decided to grow an interest in a business. After exploring options, The Ballina native became a certified nutritionist and months later, he started experimenting in his kitchen. After graduating from College, Mark’s venture took off and in February 2024, the first full production run occurred while two months later, the jellies were launched officially in stores and online.

Wondr Jellies are not like the usual jellies on the market. High protein, low sugar and just 110 calories per pack, Wondr Jellies are seen as a much healthier version of a pack of sweets.

Mark’s business has made strides in the last number of years as this most recent award highlights that. Alan Dillon, the Minister of State for Small Businesses and Retail & Circular Economy was there to present the award to his fellow Mayo man.
