Celebrations took place at Castlebar Primary School this week after they were announced as the winners of the Best Overall Campaign (Primary) in the prestigious Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 awards. The national recognition comes from Webwise who are Ireland’s internet safety awareness centre, acknowledging the school’s creative and engaging efforts to promote online safety.

The Webwise team along with the judging panel were highly impressed by Castlebar’s Primary school’s approach to safer internet day. Their campaign stood out for its innovative use of various mediums including impressive posters that were designed by the students, a thought-provoking podcast created by pupils, engaging classroom projects, and strong collaborative links forged between the school and parents.

In their announcement, Webwise commended the Mayo school, stating: “The judges praised the creative and engaging campaign that incorporated the whole school community. They also highlighted the impressive posters, podcast, projects and strong home-school links. A fantastic effort that clearly communicated the Safer Internet Day message.”

Mr Joe Carty, Principal of Castlebar Primary School expressed his delight saying “We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud of all students and staff for this fantastic achievement. They embraced Safer Internet Day with such enthusiasm and creativity. This award is a testament to their hard work and commitment to promoting a safer and better online environment for everyone.”

The school has also received a tablet device and a certificate to mark either achievement. 

This national recognition highlights the dedication of Castlebar Primary School in empowering their students to navigate the digital world responsibly and safely. Congratulations to all involved.
