Mayo EuroMillions winner had to swear on dog's life for partner to believe €500k windfall

A Mayo EuroMillions punter who scooped an incredible €500,000 prize in last Tuesday night’s draw was made to swear on his dog’s life for his partner to believe his huge winnings.

The lucky player won the whopping prize from the EuroMillions Plus draw on Tuesday, January 21, with the player purchasing the winning ticket online.

“I was in the break room in work when I checked my ticket. I immediately rang my partner and told her the good news,” the Mayo winner told the National Lottery.

“She didn’t believe me and thought I was winding her up. She told me to swear on my dog's life. Only when I swore on my dog’s life did she believe me!”

Asked about how they intend to use their winnings, the winner said: “It’s not every day you win €500,000 and I look forward to properly marking the occasion.

“A once-in-a-lifetime trip is on the cards, a first-class ticket to somewhere off the beaten track!”

Elsewhere, in more good news for Lotto players, two Dublin players separately came forward and netted over €180,000 between them.

The first Dublin player claimed an incredible €98,954 after successfully matching 5 numbers and the bonus on Saturday, December 14’sLotto draw. The player purchased their ticket from SuperValu, 7 Lorcan Avenue, Santry, Dublin 9.

“I overheard people in the same shop I had bought the ticket in, saying the shop had sold the winning ticket, I never thought it would be my ticket – but it was worth checking! This is a life-changing amount of money, and it is still yet to sink in”.

Asked if the player has any plans to spend the prize, they said: “Once I get over the shock of the win, I would really like to treat myself to a trip to see an F1 race!”

Meanwhile, another Dublin player secured €85,023 after successfully matching 5 numbers and a lucky star in the EuroMillions draw on Friday, January 17 draw. The winning ticket was purchased online.

“When I saw the amount, I thought it said €85 and 20 cent – when I realised it was €85,023, I thought ‘Wow this cannot be real’,” they told the National Lottery.

“I’ve no immediate plans for the prize; a large amount will be used to lower my mortgage – after that maybe a nice trip away!”

National Lottery spokesperson, Darragh O’Dwyer, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome our latest winners at National Lottery HQ today and to celebrate these fantastic wins with them.

“Players dreaming of becoming Ireland’s newest EuroMillions winner are reminded that tickets for Tuesday night’s draw can be purchased in-store, through the National Lottery app or at http://www.lottery.ie.”
