The late Shane MacGowan
A MAYO community is to host a night of music and entertainment to mark the first anniversary of the death of Irish music legend Shane McGowan.
The Shane McGowan Appreciation Society is presented as part of this series of unique performances held at the Irish Folk Music school in Glenisland outside Castlebar.
Each month the music teachers will present their favourite songs of their favourite recording artists in their own style with a variety of traditional instruments.
The Shane McGowan event was one of the highlights of a successful first season featuring the music of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, John Prine and more.
To mark one year since the passing of The Pogues lead singer, The Shane McGowan Appreciation Society will have another outing on Saturday, December 7.
On what promises to be a very special night, some of this country's best loved songs will be performed in the wonderfully intimate venue, performed by the music school's own music teachers with a variety of traditional instruments.
This very special event is one night only and tickets are very limited at the 150 year old schoolhouse venue.
Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm. There is no alcohol at this event but freshly brewed coffee, tea and goodies will be provided.
Tickets are available to purchase on www.eventbrite.ie.
