Gardaí at the scene of the discovery of a body in Westport
GARDAÍ in Westport are investigating the sudden death of a man aged in his 30s whose body was found dead on the outskirts of the town this morning.
The body of the male was discovered in a property on the old Castlebar Road in Westport earlier this morning. Members of the Garda Scenes of Crime Unit are currently carrying out a forensic examination of the scene while the body was removed and taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem is due to take place.
An initial examination of the scene suggests that there is nothing suspicious about the death of the male but gardaí are awaiting the results of the post mortem before ruling out any foul play.
The name of the deceased male has not been released but he is understood not to be from the Westport area and an initial investigation suggests he was visiting the town for the weekend.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50230, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
