Gardaí investigating serious assault in Belmullet

Man in his 30s was taken to hospital following incident in Mayo town

GARDAÍ in Belmullet investigating a serious assault in the Erris town over the weekend are seeking the assistance of the public.

A man in his 30s was brought to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar following a serious assault on Barrack Street, Belmullet at approximately 11.40pm on Saturday night, August 17.

Gardaí in Belmullet attended the scene following the report of the assault and the man received treatment for what was described as non-life threatening injuries before being transferred to hospital.

The town was very busy on Saturday as the annual Belmullet Heritage Day took place that day as part of the Belmullet Festival which took place from August 13 to 19.

Garda in Belmullet are asking members of the public who may have been in the vicinity of Barrack Street on Saturday night and may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 097 81910.
