Uisce Éireann crews working to restore water to Belmullet customers

'Significant water main burst' leaves customers in Blacksod without water

HOUSEHOLDS in Blacksod on the Mullet peninsula are experiencing a disruption in their water supply this afternoon following a 'significant water main burst' in Belmullet.

Uisce Éireann have confirmed that crews are working to repair a significant water main burst in Belmullet this afternoon.

Customers from Emilybeg to Blacksod are experiencing a disruption to their water supply but Uisce Éireann said every effort is being made to return a normal supply and expect the repairs to be completed by 5pm.

The state-owned water utility company stated that typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill assured customers that every effort is being made to restore water as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works are ongoing,” she said.

The water disruption in Blacksod comes a few days after a similar water main burst on Achill Island left a number of customers in villages on the island without water for a number of hours.
