A childcare event is set to take place in Mayo.

The event is being hosted by Öogo, an Irish government-backed startup that is trying to solve the childcare crisis.

It comes after the start-up has had a large amount of requests for help from the people of Westport to hold a free Minder and Parent matching event.

Described as ‘speed dating for childcare’, the free event will take place in Westport Leisure Park, July 12 and 13.

The childcare start-up’s solution to the crisis is the community.

“The world is full of good people who want to mind children. This childcare crisis isn't a supply issue; it's a platform issue. There's been no one bringing good minders and families in need together, until now,” said an Öogo spokesperson.

Öogo said: “Parents all over the country are burnt out due to a lack of flexible childcare options. This issue affects countless families, making it challenging to balance work and family life.”

“If you are a minder, a parent, a babysitter, a stay-at-home parent or a grandparent with some spare time, we invite you to join us at our event. Let's solve this crisis through community and make childcare accessible for everyone,” Öogo concluded.
