A 5 kilometre fun run has raised exceptional funds for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

The run, which was organised by the family of late hospice patient, Mary Farrell, took place to coincide with their mother's first anniversary.

The Lovely Lacken 5km Fun Run/Walk plus a Monster Raffle and Auction started and finished at Bessie’s Bar in the village of Kilcummin. There were almost 300 participants on the day, and they were treated to the most stunning views on route, on a glorious sunny day.

The monster raffle took place in the evening following the walk/run, with a huge 37 amazing prizes on offer, ranging from hotel breaks to hampers and vouchers. To round the day off, an auction took place with Michael D McAndrew as the auctioneer.

Local rugby hero, and future Ireland Captain, Caelan Doris was in attendance and kindly donated a match worn, signed Irish jersey for auction which went for €710.

Rosie the calf, arguably the most famous calf in Mayo, was kindly donated by Leo Loughney for the auction. Rosie drew a massive crowd as people came from all over to see how much she would sell for. Rosie was walked into the specially set up auction pen by Caelan. The winning bid for Rosie was €1640!

Overall, the event raised over €13,000 for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

The Farrell family thanked the participants for their generosity as well as Mayo Roscommon Hospice CEO, Martina Jennings, Jo Ganley, and all in the Mayo Roscommon Hospice, who helped with the fundraiser.

The family hope to see everyone again for the Lovely Lacken 5km Fun Run/Walk in 2025.
