A MAYO GP is to feature on a new TG4 series which shines a light on the incredible work of carers, volunteers, professional carers and organisations providing care to those in need across Ireland.

Mulranny-based GP, Dr Jerry Cowley will appear in the new TG4 series which starts on Tuesday, April 2 at 7.30pm and celebrates these selfless individuals who go above and beyond to care for others, recognizing them as the unsung heroes of our communities.

The series ‘Cúramóirí’ delves into the heart of Irish society, showcasing the intricate tapestry of care provided by family carers, professional carers, and dedicated organisations.

The work of Dr Cowley in the development of St Brendan's Village in the scenic west Mayo village of Mulranny will feature in the series which will look at how St Brendan's caters for the needs of the community.

St Brendan's Village offers a combination of low, medium, and high support residential care units to cater to the diverse needs of residents. The facilities include 16 low support units, as well as a High Support Nursing Unit with communal spaces for social activities.

St Brendan's is more than just a care facility - it is a warm and welcoming community that is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support for people in the area. However as a non-profit, charitable organisation and at present St Brendan's are fighting to keep the doors open.

Through the lens of Cúramóirí the viewer will witness the challenges faced by carers and those in their care, but also the resilience, bravery, and unyielding love that blossoms in these relationships. The series will spotlight the unsung heroes of modern society in an exploration of compassion, strength, and the power of human connection. These are personal stories from the heart told with honesty and conviction.

The work of Dr Cowley and St Brendan's will feature in the fourth episode of the four-part series which begins this Tuesday, April 2 at 7.30pm. The series will focus on a number of other individuals throughout the country including Una O’Kane, a palliative care nurse at The Galway Hospice.
