Funeral arrangements have been announced for Kacper Swierkowski (18) who died in road traffic collision on Wednesday

The Funeral arrangements for a 18-year-old Castlebar student who died in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday have been announced.

Kacper Swierkowski of Knockaphunta Park, Castlebar died following a collision involving a motorbike at Cloonkeen near Castlebar on the R309 at approximately 5pm on Wednesday, March 13.

Mr Swierkowski was the son of Robert and Jola Swierkowski, natives of Jedrzejow, Poland who have been living in the area for several years. His father works locally as a plumber and he has two brothers Patryk and David.

His death shocked the local community and tributes have been paid to Kacper who was a student in Davitt College in Castlebar and worked in a local sports shop.

Friends of the Swierkowski family have set up a Go Fund Me page on behalf of the family to help pay for the unexpected funeral costs.

Family friend Gregorz Derengowski who set up the fund which has raised €24,408 in just two days said: “The family is understandably shocked by this loss and unfortunately not prepared for all that goes along with planning a funeral at this time. If you knew Jola and Robert, you’d know that they are amazing people and friends. Jola and Robert were always looking for different ways to give back to their community and have helped many of us in our time of need. It’s now our turn to help Jola and Robert and theirs children as they deal with the loss of Kacper. We are raising money to assist with unexpected funeral costs, services, and time Jola and Robert might have to take off of work.”

Kacper will repose at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar F23 HT38, on Monday, March 18, from 5pm, concluding with prayer at 7pm. Removal from Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 19, at 10.30am, walking to The Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11.30am, followed by private cremation. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed on www.churchtv.ie/castlebar or can be listened to in Castlebar on the Castlebar Parish Radio 105.3 FM.
