May Eddie rest in peace

A Mayo community is mourning the loss of a 'great GAA man', and tributes are pouring in as friends and family come together to honor the memory of Eddie Hosty.

Eddie, formerly of Shanballyboct, Irishtown, Co Mayo and Leeds, UK, peacefully departed after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife Mary, children Amanda, Alan, and Ramona, grandchildren Samantha, Sheridan, Sasha, Erin, Leny, and Lucas, as well as his siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Norah, and brothers Pete and Tom.

Described as a "true gentleman" and a "lifelong outstanding servant to the GAA," Eddie's kindness and positivity touched the lives of many, and tributes from friends and loved ones are pouring in.

One tribute from a loving friend stated: "Deepest sympathy to Mary the Hosty family and all the extended families on the passing of Eddie. A great GAA man when he lived in Leeds and a gentleman. May he rest in peace."

Another heartfelt message offers condolences to his wife, Mary, and the family, acknowledging his contributions to the GAA in the UK. "May he rest in peace. Eddie gave wonderful service to the GAA in Yorkshire and all over England and was a great Mayo man. Our Lady of Knock pray for him."

Helena Hayes of Glenreigh, Holycross, reminisces about Eddie's friendship with her father. "Eddie was a good friend of my dad's in Holycross, and they shared many car journeys to matches," she fondly recalls, stressing the bond between Eddie and the entire community.

Eddie is recognised for his immense contributions to the Holycross/Ballycahill GAA club and gentle demeanor.

Noted as "such a loyal and steadfast supporter of our club teams down the years," Eddie's legacy continues to be "thought so highly of," reads another condolence.

On top of his sporting interests, the Irishtown man's involvement in the Cutloose Country Music Festival, saw his skills, advice, and commitment play a central role in its success. This sentiment is echoed by those who worked alongside him.

Reposing in the John Doyle Center, Holycross Ballycahill GAA Club (E41 NH26) on Friday, March 15, from 4pm to 6:30pm.

Arriving at Holycross Abbey (E41 PHO1) at 7:15pm. Requiem Mass on Saturday, March 16, at 9am. Burial in Irishtown cemetery, Co Mayo at 2pm. The Mass can be viewed using this link.

The family have asked for family flowers only, but suggest that donations can be made, if desired, to Waterford University Hospital Palliative Care.
