RTÉ to provide coverage of funeral of former Taoiseach John Bruton

Live coverage of the the funeral will be shown by RTÉ across TV, radio, and online

The late John Bruton, whose wife Finola is a native of Westport.

Live coverage of the State Funeral of former Taoiseach, John Bruton, will be broadcast by RTÉ today and tomorrow.

The former Taoiseach, whose wife Finola is a Westport native, passed away earlier this week.

Mr Bruton's remains will be brought to St Peter and Paul's Church, Dunboyne, Co. Meath, this evening, Friday, February 9. The removal service at 7pm will be broadcast live on the RTÉ News channel. Katie Hannon and Eoghan Ó Neachtain will provide commentary from the cemetery.

Tomorrow, Saturday, February 10, special television coverage of the State Funeral, will start at 10.40am on RTÉ One.  President Michael D Higgins and An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, and other dignitaries will be in attendance. 

Later in the day, the funeral cortège will proceed to Rooske Cemetery in Dunboyne, where Mr Bruton will be laid to rest and buried with full military honours. Irish Sign Language (ISL) coverage will be broadcast live on RTÉ News Channel and RTÉ Player.

Colm Ó Mongáin will present a special programme on RTÉ Radio 1 from 10.50am featuring coverage of the funeral Mass and burial, with Philip Boucher-Hayes and Cuan Ó Seireadáin providing commentary.

Westport Fine Gael TD Michael Ring and former Taoiseach Enda Kenny were among the many people who have paid extensive tributes to Mr Bruton over the last number of days.
