Ballina Veterinary Practitioner elected as President of the Veterinary Council of Ireland

President of the Veterinary Council of Ireland

The Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI), has appointed Ballina veterinary practitioner, Rachel Brown, as their new President.

Ms Brown was appointed President of the VCI following an uncontested election by Council members at the most recent VCI meeting last week. She assumes the office of President with immediate effect.

Rachel is a Veterinary Practitioner in Moy Veterinary Clinic in Ballina, a mixed practice serving both companion and farm animals. Rachel has served as Deputy President of the VCI for the last two years.

Speaking about her appointment as President, Ms Brown said: “It is an immense privilege to have been elected as President of the Veterinary Council of Ireland. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the Council, along with the Registrar and executive team in the interest of the public and of animal health and welfare.”

The VCI is an independent statutory body responsible for the regulation of the practice of veterinary medicine and ve nursing in the public interest, and in the interests of animal health and welfare. 

CEO and Registrar of the VCI, Niamh Muldoon said: “I warmly congratulate our new President on her incoming term of office and I look forward to working with her to continue the work of the Veterinary Council on matters of animal health and welfare and public health. The Council will benefit from Rachel’s expertise having gained experience as Deputy President.

“I would also like to recognise and sincerely thank our outgoing President, Vivienne Duggan, for her high level of commitment and dedication in the performance of her role over the preceding two years.” Ms Muldoon concluded.
