Castlebar clubs lead tributes to former player Matthew Mullahy

CASTLEBAR Mitchels GAA Club and Castlebar Celtic FC have led tributes to their former player Matthew Mullahy following his passing.

The county town has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Matthew, who was an active member of both clubs. 

Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club described him as ‘a very talented player and a great team-mate’.

“He played a pivotal role in the club winning a county U16A title in 2020. Last season he played on our U21 and Junior teams with the style and flair that he always brought to the game,” the club said a statement, before extending their condolences to his family. 

Matthew was also a part of Castlebar Celtic’s Under-21 Super League-winning squad last season. 

In a statement on social media, the club said they were ‘devastated’ to learn of his passing. 

He will repose at his residence Ballyneggin, Castlebar, F23 HK82 (via N5 Dublin road) on Tuesday evening from 4-8pm.

House private at all other times.

Removal from his residence on will take place on Wednesday (via Old Turlough Road) for Requiem Mass in Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, at 2.30pm.

He will be laid to rest afterwards in Castlebar New Cemetery.
