'Always friendly' 91-year-old Mayo gentleman passes away

John (Seán) Gavin of Clooncan, Ballinlough / Crossbeg, Tooreen and formerly Drishaghaun, Ballyglass, Mayo Abbey, has passed away at age 91.

Mr Gavin passed away peacefully in Mayo University Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 27.

Deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Josie of 68 years, his sons Tommy, John, Jim, Martin and Andy, as well as daughters Kathleen Regan, Mabel Finanm, Annie Finan, Margaret Gavin Robinson, Teresa Finnegan, Janie Gavin Reynolds, Jodie Costello, Chris Walsh and Mary McGreal. 

Mr Gavin will also be missed dearly by his 39 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and wide circle of friends.

Described as being "always friendly" and a "gentleman", Mr Gavin will be reposing in Gavin's Funeral Home, Knox Street, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo on Tuesday evening, January 30 from 5pm until 8pm.

The funeral will be arriving to St. Joseph's Church, Aghamore, on Wednesday morning, January 31 for funeral Mass at 11.30am with the funeral proceeding to the local cemetery.
