Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow snow, low temperature and ice warnings for Mayo and the entire country, with lows of -5C expected overnight.

The warning will come into effect from 5pm this evening, until 11am tomorrow morning.

Mayo County Council have urged people to be very careful as difficult travelling conditions are to be expected, as well as low temperature issues for vulnerable people.

Today’s snowfall in parts of the county led to some school and road closures in the interest of health and safety, particularly in rural areas, with the conditions around Ballina and Foxford, described as "brutal" by locals.

Highest temperatures of between 1-C and 0C are expected, while lows of –3C are forecast for the county overnight.

We will see warmer temperatures heading into tomorrow, Friday, morning and afternoon, with it set to reach 6C by 5pm that evening.
