Westport GAA is proud to announce The Return of The Oskars on April 27, 2024 and once more promises an evening of fun, glamour, and Hollywood-inspired entertainment as it raises funds for their existing facilities at St Patrick's Park for the benefit of Westport's football, hurling, Camogie and LGFA communities.

As a follow-up to the resounding success of the March 2018 event, Westport GAA invites everyone to get involved in this cinematic extravaganza. An informal launch night will be held at the Westport GAA clubhouse on Monday next, January 22 at 8pm. Attendees will have the chance to delve into the details of this unique opportunity - whether as aspiring actors for the OskaRs movies or enthusiastic supporters of this vital fundraiser.

Recalling the previous Oskars event, which saw enthusiastic participation from across the community, club Chairman Michael O'Brien commented: “The previous Oskars event was not just a triumph for our club but a testament to the incredible spirit and involvement of our community. It was heartening to witness individuals from all walks of life come together, showcasing their talent, enthusiasm, and unwavering support for a cause that extends beyond our clubhouse into our community. The films themselves are a tribute to iconic Hollywood productions and previous films featured included beloved titles such as Fr Ted, The Field, The Snapper, Forrest Gump, Fatal Attraction, Bridesmaids, and Shawshank Redemption. There was as much excitement in the preparation and filming of each one as there was on the night itself when awards such as Best Actor, Best Film etc were announced.”

The Chairman went on to say: “The success of that night resonated far beyond the awards; it echoed through our town, emphasising the unity and collective strength that defines our town and community. We are excited to recreate that magic, channeling the same energy into this year's event, knowing that it will once again reinforce the bonds that make our community so special.”

For those eager to rally behind Westport GAA, a club that stands as a cornerstone for every member of a vibrant community, and become part of the magic – whether as actors, volunteers, or contributors – you are reminded that an information meeting will be held in the Clubhouse on Monday, January 22 at 8pm. Selection of actors will take place in early February, followed by filming across Westport in March, leading up to the Oskars formal event on April 27.
