Several projects from Mayo students have qualified for the prestigious BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE).

Mount St Michael (Claremorris) has four entries, Sancta Maria College (Louisburgh) has two, and St Joseph's Secondary School (Castlebar) has one project in the running.

The exhibition itself is the final hurdle of the contest, after months of ideas and hard work. The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition is an unforgettable experience for the students who take part.

Recent years have seen the number of entries skyrocket, and tomorrow, over 1,100 students will arrive to the exhibition and prepare for the first round of judging, carried out by 85 expert judges. The event attracts hundreds-of-thousands of people making it one of the largest events of its kind worldwide.

President Michael D. Higgins carried out the official opening of the event this afternoon and speaking ahead of the exhibition's sixtieth, Head of the BTYSTE, Mari Cahalane said that she is "look[ing] forward to showing [President Higgins], and the people of Ireland the incredible and diverse projects that the country’s brightest young minds have been working on.”
