FOOTBALL for girls and women in Mayo is set to continue after a full Mayo LGFA executive was ratified at a county board EGM in the Traveller’s Friend in Castlebar.
This follows a call by Mayo LGFA for volunteers to take up positions on its executive committee, warning that all footballing activity in Mayo could cease unless certain positions were filled.
Speaking to The Mayo News today (Wednesday), Mayo LGFA Chairman Des Phillips said he was ‘delighted’ with the response to the call for volunteers.
Phillips, who previously warned that Croke Park and the Connacht Council may have to intervene to run the affairs of Mayo LGFA, is to remain on as chairman.
All-Ireland winning coach Michael McHale (Carnacon) will also stay on as Vice-Chairman, as will Children’s Officer Ita Brennan (The Neale).
Siobhán Conlon from Parke has taken up the role of Secretary while Joanne Regan (Kilmovee Shamrocks) will act as Assistant Secretary, with Breda Waldron (Davitts) to remain temporarily as acting Treasurer.
The Assistant Treasurer’s role has been filled by Clara Kelly (MacHale Rovers), while Debbie Lavelle Doyle (MacHale Rovers) will act as Language and Cultural Officer and Central Council Delegate.
Deirdre Donnelly (Carnacon) has taken up the role of Development Officer while Ruairi O’Hara (Knockmore) will be the second Central Council Delegate.
Mayo LGFA’s Connacht Council delegates are Neil Masterson (Burrishoole) and Aisling McLoughlin (Davitts) with Aisling Heraty (Westport) joining as PRO.
Public relations, finance and fixtures committees have also been established.
