NEW Mayo ladies manager Liam McHale will be without one the top defenders in the county as Clodagh McMcManamon has confirmed that she will not be part of the Mayo senior ladies panel in 2024, The Mayo News can reveal.

The Burrishoole club woman confirmed when contacted yesterday evening (Monday) that she will not be available for the Mayo team due to work and other commitments.

The 31-year-old secondary school teacher was a mainstay of Michael Moyles defence when she switched from midfield to full-back.

Her exploits for Mayo in 2023 saw her win a Connacht senior football title and an All-Star nomination.

She has previously lined out for Mayo alongside her twin sister Ciara, with whom she won a Mayo senior county title with Burrishoole in 2022.

Liam McHale told The Mayo News that five players from the 2023 panel will not be available for the 2024 season, including two who have retired and two who are going travelling.

Experienced players Lisa Cafferky and Fiona McHale will be part of McHale’s panel for the upcoming National Football League.

McHale’s charges begin their Division 1 campaign by hosting two-time All-Ireland senior champions Meath at home on Sunday, January 21.
