THE sweet melody of goodwill and generosity will sound throughout Westport tomorrow when local musicians assemble near the famous ‘clock’ to raise much-needed money for charity.

‘The Big Christmas Busk’ will see several popular local acts gather for a jolly Christmas singsong to raise money for the homelessness charity Focus Ireland.

Almost all the acts has already taken to the stage in the The Clock Tavern, a local music venue/pub that is fast establishing itself as one of the best live venues in West Mayo.

The fundraiser, which took place on a bitterly cold day at the Westport Christmas market last year, will be bigger and better then ever when it kicks off at 4.00pm tomorrow (Saturday).

David Munnelly, Patrick Dexter and Nan Fee, Michael Gallen, Patrick O'Laoghaire, Graham Sweeney, Orla Casey, Freda Hatton, Julie Langan, Declan Askin and Coda will be among the musicians taking part at the much-anticipated singsong.

Genevieve McGing, one of the organisers, told The Mayo News the event is inspired by the annual Christmas Eve busk at St Stephen’s Green in Dublin – which has been graced by well-known names such as Bono, Glen Hansard and Imelda May.

“There was a really good response to it [last year], so it would just be nice to be able to raise a bit of money then because people have been so kind to participate,” Genevieve said.

‘The Big Christmas Busk’ will commence at 4.00pm outside The Clock Tavern, Westport on Saturday, December 16 with all donations going towards Focus Ireland.
