Mayo GAA records profit but gate receipts down significantly

MAYO GAA recorded a profit of €776,357, despite a notable drop in gate receipts at club championship games.

Its total income from rose to €4,075,639 from just under €4 million in 2022, in which it recorded a profit of over €1 million.

This comes despite total gate receipt income falling from €781,805 to €695,336, which includes a fall in season ticket revenue from €270,700 to €256,150.

Gate receipts for adult junior, intermediate and senior championship games dropped by €82,574 from €489,766 to €407,192.

However, gate receipts at hurling club games nearly doubled from €3,359 to €7,684 while underage games rose from €17,989 to €24,310.

Revenue from the Mayo GAA TV streaming service rose from €110,697 in 2022 to €124,694 in 2023.

Mayo GAA also saw its income from Cúl Camps rise from €244,275 to €290,290.

‘Sundry income’ also rose from €43,050 to €139,677 while Mayo GAA’s share from National Football League games rose from €182,495 to €339,986.

Of a total expenditure of €3,299,282, a total of €1,233,808 was spent on Mayo’s intercounty hurling and football teams – an increase of over €200,000 from last year.

A total of €809,872 was spent on the senior footballers – up over €200,000 from €604,078 in 2022.

The Mayo senior footballers’ interest in the 2022 championship ended on June 26, roughly one week earlier than when they exited this year’s championship on July 2.

‘Backroom Team Personnel’ was the largest expense for the senior footballers in 2023, standing at €211,166.

This was followed by €181,482 on ‘player mileage’ and €108,641 on ‘meals, catering and nutrition’.

‘Team management’ expenses also shot up from €47,516 to €83,213 in 2023.

The figures are to be outlined to delegates at Mayo GAA’s convention, which takes place in The Castlecourt Hotel in Westport at 12pm tomorrow (Sunday, December 10).

Only one position on the Mayo GAA executive will be contested, with former Mayo GAA Chairman Mike Connelly going head-to-head against Coaching Officer Declan O’Reilly.

The Hollymount/Carramore clubman, who completed a five-year term as chairman in 2019, is currently serving as his club’s county board delegate.

Mayo GAA’s Chairman Seamus Touhy, as well as Ronan Kirrane (Secretary), Valerie Murph (Treasurer), John Walker (PRO), Brian O’Malley (Assistant Secretary), Michael Diskin (Assistant Treasurer) are all set to remain on in their roles.
