The new N5 has been closed recently to facilitate the cutting of verges
THE regular closures of the new N5 between Castlebar and Westport in order to cut the grass verges was described as 'mind-boggling' at Wednesday’s Castlebar Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Michael Kilcoyne said the saga was laughable and wondered how it ever came about.
“What were these design people thinking? How do they not know that grass grows along the side of a road? If that’s the best that road designers can come up with then I wonder what we’re at.
“Did they ever look at any other option than closing the road every few weeks to cut the grass. You couldn’t write, it’s so mad,” he added.
“Is there anywhere else in Ireland that shuts down a road so that grass can be cut? Why did they not figure this out long before the project was completed. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to them. I just don’t know what to say about it,” he added.
