County Council draft Climate Action Plan public consultation now open

The consultation period for the Draft Plan runs until Monday, December 4.

Mayo County Council has launched a public consultation on the Draft Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029. The plan sets out how the local authority will implement and facilitate a range of mitigation, adaptation, and other climate action measures in Mayo. This will help deliver on the Government’s overall national Climate Objective, which seeks to pursue and achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.

The Draft Climate Action Plan is accompanied by a Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Appropriate Assessment Natura Impact Report, which are also out for consultation. The consultation period for the Draft Plan runs until Monday, December 4.

Public Consultation Drop-In Clinics will take place at the following locations and members of the public are encouraged to come along: (1) Tuesday, November 14 in Castlebar Library from 5.30pm to 6.30pm; (2) Wednesday, November 15 in Belmullet Library from 2.30pm to 3.30pm; (3) Thursday, November 16 in Westport Library from 10.30am to 11.30am and Claremorris Library from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and (4) Friday, November 17 in Ballina Library from 11am to 12pm.

Additionally, an online consultation session will take place on Tuesday, November 21 at 7.30pm. To register for this session please email: climateaction@mayococo.ie.

The Mayo County Council Draft Climate Action Plan, the Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Appropriate Assessment Natura Impact Report, will be on display until Monday, December 4 at 4pm, at the following locations:

(1) Online at https://consult.mayo.ie/

(2) Mayo County Council Offices: Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, Áras an Chontae Castlebar, Ballina Civic Offices, Ballinrobe Area Office, Belmullet Area Office, Claremorris Area Office, Swinford Area Office, Westport Civic Office

(3) Mayo County Council Libraries (Achill Sound, Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Castlebar, Charlestown, Claremorris, Crossmolina, Foxford, Kiltimagh, Louisburgh, Swinford, Westport) during their respective opening hours.

Alternatively, you can make a written submission to the Climate Action Unit, Mayo County Council, Áras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar, Co. Mayo F23 WF90 and marked ‘Mayo County Council Draft Local Authority Climate Action Plan’.
