Mary's dedication and hard work rewarded at gala Dublin event

Castlebar nursing home 'inspiration' receives national award

A Mayo woman described as 'inspirational' was rewarded for 18 years of dedication to others when she received a prestigious honour at the Nursing Home Ireland Care Awards in Dublin.

The ceremony, held in association with Homecare Medical saw more than 300 people pack into the Round Room in The Mansion House in Dublin where Mary McEveney, a Kitchen Assistant at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home in Castlebar was one of seven honoured for their excellence in providing nursing home care.

Mary has been working in Cuan Chaitriona’s Catering Department for the past 18 years and said it has been an honour and privilege for her to serve her residents during this time. Colleagues praise her as a powerful and inspirational force in the nursing home who uses her positive attitude and tireless energy to encourage others to work hard and succeed. "Mary gets great job satisfaction from helping our most vulnerable in society," they state. They testify Mary is inspired at work daily and there isn’t a day that goes by that one of her residents doesn’t put a smile on her face.

Tadhg Daly, Nursing Homes Ireland CEO said the award was very well deserved: “Congratulations to Mary on her fantastic achievement in winning a Nursing Home Ireland Care Award. Our awards celebrate excellent care provided by staff in nursing homes and entries from across the country of an extremely high standard were received. An independent judging panel adjudicated on entries submitted for hundreds of outstanding staff and to win represents a brilliant achievement. Fellow staff, residents and visitors to the nursing home should be exceptionally proud of her achievement.”

The NHI Care Awards recognise care excellence and staff within nursing homes. The Awards honour the vital role fulfilled by nursing homes and their staff in enhancing the lives of residents entrusted in their care. Nominations were invited from over 370 Nursing Homes Ireland member nursing homes, located in communities across the country. They were submitted by nursing home residents, visitors to nursing homes, staff, and the public.
