BALLINA Stephenites will this week be preparing diligently for the challenge of London champions Fulham Irish, who they play next Saturday evening in the Connacht Club quarter-final in MacHale Park in Castlebar.
The Mayo champions are long odds on shots to win the game, and should they do that, they will have a very short turnaround time to prepare for a huge game with Galway champions, Corofin.
The Connacht Council have said the winners of Saturday's quarter-final will play Corofin in the semi-final at 2pm on Saturday, November 19, in Pearse Stadium in Galway. The Mayo News understands that RTE will broadcast the Connacht semi-final live on RTE 2 television. Tuam Stadium was not considered as a venue for the game as construction work taking place there is now limiting capacity.
Mayo Intermediate champions Kilmeena will too be warm order favourites to defeat Leitrim champions Annaduff in next Sunday's quarter-final fixed for 2pm in MacHale Park, Castlebar. And they too face a short turnaround time if they win, with the Connacht Council fixing the semi-final against Galway champions Monivea Abbey, for Sunday, November 19 at 1.30pm in Tuam Stadium.
Mayo Junior champions Lahardane don't enter the Connacht Championship until the semi-final stage on the weekend of November 18/19. They will play the winner's of this Sunday's quarter-final between Galway Champions Menlough and Roscommon champions, St Michael's of Cootehill. That game throws in at 2pm in Tuam Stadium.
Meanwhile, details have been confirmed for Tooreen’s Connacht GAA Intermediate Hurling Championship final. They take will taken on Ballinderreen, the Galway intermediate champions.
Tooreen were due to take on the London champions this weekend in semi-final action but that game has been cancelled due to a dispute in London. The London senior final has been postponed twice due to a challenge over a player’s eligibility. As a result, Tooreen will meet Ballinderreen in the final on November 26, in Athleague. Throw-in time is at 1.30pm.
