WESTPORT is set to rock on Friday evening for the inaugural Headbangers Halloween Ball, which will be raising money for Western Care.
Well-known local acts The Lunartics, Trendspotters, Revival and Paddy Ward will all be on the bill for a gig that will be kicking off the The Jester bar from 7.30 on Friday, October 27.
Speaking to The Mayo News this afternoon (Wednesday), Lunartics member David Muldoon said the idea to do the gig arose with the tenth anniversary of the band’s formation.
“We said we wanted to do something instead of going out and just having an another gig and charging a few,” said David.
“So I spoke to some local musicians and we kind of all agreed that it would be nice to give something back in the town as such and we decided all of us to put on a free gig.”
All proceeds on the night will be going to Western Care, which provides services to people with disabilities.
With the level of enthusiasm locally, David said that the Headbangers Halloween Ball may yet become a yearly event.
“It’s beginning to grow arms and legs a bit. There’s even guys talking about next year already,” said David.
“The intention is to pick a different charity every year and this is the first one we’re going to run. This year we decided on Western Care so next year it could be someone else hopefully.”
David thanked Kenneth Lavelle, who runs The Jester, for allowing the use of his premises on Friday night.
“I’m really proud of everyone, they’ve all put their time and effort forward and haven’t charged or asked for anything. I’m really proud of that. Hopefully that’ll continue on next year.”
