A hat-trick from Kayla Doherty helped MacHale Rovers to secure the intermediate title in a physical encounter which had five yellow cards.
Moy Davitts weren’t helped by kicking over a dozen wides and having three players sin-binned at various stages.
Even a second-half comeback which saw them shoot two excellent goals wasn’t enough to stop a teak tough MacHale Rovers from sealing victory.
The Moysiders dominated possession and got loads of shots away in the opening quarter but only scored once in the first 30 minutes.
That meant that Kayla Doherty’s opening goal came against the run of play for MacHale Rovers when she delivered in the 15th minute.
She then converted a penalty past stand-in goalie Lisa Reid to put her side eight points in front as Moy Davitts consistently fell short in front of the posts.
Trailing 2-3 to 0-2 at half-time, Moy Davitts kicked at least 13 wides by the end.
Five minutes into the second half, Kayla Doherty nailed a hat-trick that looked like it would finish Moy Davitts.
However, some of their better play produced goals from Lisa Reid and Sandra – goals which kept them firmly in contention.
A pair of Doherty points were MacHale Rovers' only scores in the second half, but it was enough to see them over the line in a game with plenty of physicality.
There will be a full report plus reaction from the MacHale Rovers camp in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
