N5 set to be closed again to facilitate grass cutting to verges

Closures on the new N5 will begin again next week.

Mayo County Council today announced that in accordance with Section 75 of the Roads Act, 1993 and the Roads Regulations, 1994, that they intended to close the new N5 dual carriageway from Westport to Turlough for five nights, between the period of Monday next, October 16 and Friday, November 3. The closure is to facilitate grass cutting to verges along the dual carriageway.

The council say the dates represent a window period for the proposed works. The physical road closure is anticipated for up to 5 nights, between the hours of 7pm and 6am. Advance notification of start date will be provided and roads will be opened early if works are completed early.

Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Siochana and emergency access will be maintained. This is the third occasion that the new N5 has been closed for maintenance issues since it was officially opened back in mid-June.
