Mannix family express grateful thanks for Sharon support

THE Mannix family from Purranes, Hollymount, has expressed grateful thanks to everyone who has lent help and assistance in any way since Sharon’s accident in Castlerea almost two years ago. She is currently in the kind care of the staff at the Brampton Nursing Unit in Oranmore, Galway.

Sharon was seriously injured on the evening of December 9, 2021, when she was struck by a van on the main street in Castlerea while returning to her car after finishing work.

She sustained various injuries including a traumatic life changing brain injury and later underwent emergency surgery in the Beaumont Hospital. Sharon subsequently spent several months in Galway Hospital before being transferred to the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dun Laoghaire in November 2022.

A local committee comprising of Mary Mahon, Padraig Flannery, Sheila Jennings, Mattie Joe Connolly and Padraic Conroy, establishing a ‘crown-funding’ venture which received tremendous support and one that has been so supportive of Sharon and the family since its launch.

In a statement issued in recent days, the family has expressed their thanks to everyone that donated to the Sharon Mannix Fundraiser. “We would like to also express our gratitude to the Fundraising Committee members for their personal time and dedication to this cause.

“It is almost two years since our beloved Sharon sustained a life changing brain injury. Since Sharon was discharged from the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, in May this year, she has been living in the exceptional care of The Brampton Nursing Unit in Oranmore, Co Galway,

“We chose The Brampton because access to rehabilitation is vital to assist Sharon’s recovery, especially in the months following on from her accident, and we were lucky to have such a facility in our neighbouring county.

“Sharon’s needs are complex and she has access to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, as well as other stimulation therapies such as music, water therapy, and a sensory garden as well as 24 hour nursing care.

“We as a family are comforted to know Sharon is receiving the care she so needs and deserves, and the funds raised are helping greatly to pay towards the fees for her care in Brampton Nursing Unit.  She will remain in the Brampton Unit for the unforeseeable future so these funds are greatly appreciated.

“The fundraising committee would like to sincerely thank the various groups and individuals who helped in any way. We also wish to acknowledge the local media for providing a platform to highlight this worthy cause.”
