EXCITEMENT is building ahead of the announcement of the winners of the 2023 Supervalu Tidy Towns competition this afternoon (Friday).

Twenty-eight towns and villages from Mayo are among over 600 entries this year's competition, which celebrates it 65th year in 2023.

Castlebar and Westport were awarded gold medals at last year's awards, with Belmullet and Mulranny scooping silver while Ballina was awarded bronze.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, will announce the winners at a ceremony in Croke Park today.

“Today is an opportunity for us to celebrate the wonderful volunteers the length and breadth of the country,” said Minister Humphreys.

“These are volunteers who work tirelessly all year round to ensure their communities are looking their best.

“So, as Minister for Rural and Community Development, I just want to pay tribute and pay a big thank you to our wonderful Tidy Towns groups.”
