Texan country singer to perform in Westport this weekend

WESTPORT BOUND Singer-songwriter Noel McKay.

THERE’LL be a little bit of Texas in Westport this weekend, when country artist Noel McKay stops off on his tour of Ireland for a gig in the Clew Bay Hotel on Sunday night.
Music fans around mayo and indeed Ireland, will be familiar with McKay from his previous visit to our shores with his then musical partner Brennen Leigh and their unforgettable performance at the 2019 Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival.
This will be McKay’s second tour to Ireland, performing music from his solo album and collaborations with other musicians, such as the late, great songwriter Guy Clark. It was Clark who discovered McKay while performing his songs at a venue in Kerrville, Texas, back in 1993.
In the 2000s, McKay had several hits in the state of Texas with his brother Hollin in the band the McKay Brothers. Those songs continue to enjoy widespread airplay on Texas Radio stations and satellite radio.
In addition to writing solo, McKay has co-written songs with such respected artists as Richard Dobson, David Olney, John Scott Sherrill, Shawn Camp and others. When not on the road, he splits his time between Austin and Nashville.

•   Noel McKay will perform in the Clew Bay Hotel (back room) at 8pm this Sunday, October 8. Doors open at 7.30pm; admission €10.
