Kilmaine secured their Intermediate status this afternoon after an attack-minded display saw them dispatch a defiant Kilitmagh.
Though they were well beaten, Kilimagh did rattle Kilmaine with two second half goals.
However, the brilliance of Oisín Mullin, Tomás Fahy, Adam Barrett - who finished with ten points - was too much for Kilti’ who now face Bunniconlon in the relegation decider.
The defensive shackles were cast aside in a first half that ended 0-10 0-5 to Kilmaine.
The South Mayo lads kicked a variety of scores, with Adam Barrett (5 frees) Tomás Fahey (2) and the three Mullins brothers all hitting singles.
Kiltimagh made inroads through Tomás Keegan, who kicked three frees in the first half and was lively up front.
But their opponents made big turnovers while Oisín Mullin’s considerable influence helped them to a deserved five-point half-time lead.
Kilmaine added two more points after the restart before Kiltimagh’s Brian Gallagher converted a controversially-awarded penalty.
Oisín Mullin later forced a turnover which started a move ending with his brother Jarlath burying the ball in the Kiltimagh net from point-blank.
Kilmaine’s net rattled barely a minute later when Stephen McDonnell set up Jack Niland for Kilti’s second goal to put four between them in the 40th minute.
A missed penalty aside, the winners delivered a strong quarter crowned by a tap-in soccer-style Jarlath Mullin goal at the death.
A full report, plus an exclusive interview with Oisín Mullin, will be carried in Tuesday’s edition of The Mayo News.
