Lacken man Caelan Doris has been included in Ireland's squad for the upcoming World Cup. His selection comes as no surprise, given the fact that he's one of the best back-rows in the game and will surely make a massive impact on the global tournament in France.
Andy Farrell named his 33-man squad this afternoon and the main omissions were Cian Healy and Jacob Stockdale. Healy's omission is particularly heartbreaking as he picked up a calf injury in Saturday's warm-up match with Samoa. The Leinster prop was winning his 125th cap and would almost certainly have made the world Cup squad if the injury hadn't occurred.
Meanwhile, Ballina RFC chairman Alan Rowe, says the selection of Caelan Doris is another huge boost for rugby in Mayo.
"Caelan is now one of the best players in the world and everyone will see that in the coming weeks. He played his Mini and youth rugby here in Ballina and the jersey he wore in his first cap hangs proudly in our clubhouse. We're very excited about the adventure he's facing into now."
