A stunning second half goal and a 63rd-minute point handed victory to a defiant Belmullet team who were made to work for the two points they gained this afternoon.

Ciaran Conway became the hero when he sent over a delightful point in injury time to send the Belmullet faithful into raptures.

However, the score of the day went to Ryan O’Donoghue when he lobbed Brian Lynskey mid-way through the second half after a botched Garrymore kickout.

Once again, the Erris gale played a big part as Garrymore failed to capitalize on a good first half which they won by 0-5 to 0-3.

Now playing against the wind, they southerners got their second half off to a very good start when Darren Quinn shook the Belmullet net while Belmullet saw Ryan McIntyre black-carded.

However, it would be Garrymore’s last score for some time to come as they struggled to come to get to grips with the wind conditions.

Belmullet looked to be on the wane when they levelled through Ryan O’Donoghue’s stunning lobbed effort.

Belmullet defended like their lives defended on it, but Garrymore’s Colin Commins found a gap in their red wall and fisted over the bar to level heading into the last few minutes.

The game went right down to the wire before a stunning Ciaran Conway point ensured that both points went to the barony.
