MICHAEL Moyles has stepped away as manager of the Mayo ladies senior football team.

In a statement issued today (Thursday), Moyles said: "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the county board and the clubs for the honour they have given me in managing the Senior team and also for the support, guidance, and opportunities I have received throughout my tenure. I am truly grateful for the trust you placed in me to lead the team.

"I would also like to acknowledge the work done by a small but committed and hardworking fundraising team and to all our sponsors who helped ensure Mayo LGFA players were equipped and resourced with every tool necessary to compete at the highest level.

"Finally, I wish to thank the management team for consistently and relentlessly going above and beyond to match the ambition and dedication of the players. We hope as a management team we have added to the work done previously to make Mayo LGFA stronger."

The former Crossmolina and Mayo senior footballer guided the Mayo ladies to three All-Ireland semi-finals and a Connacht title since starting his three-year term in 2021.

Mayo saw their 2023 campaign ended by a Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh-inspired Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final in Thurles last month.

During his term, Moyles was hampered by the loss of several key players to ALF and other sports.
