Ballina-based animal welfare charity issues urgent appeal

North West SPCA is appealing for support from the public

AN animal welfare charity based in Ballina has issued an emergency appeal for donations.

North West SPCA have said they are in a 'critical' financial state after incurring veterinary bills of over €125,000.

The volunteer-run charity has helped over 120,000 animals since its founding in 2001.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the ISPCA had received 19 complaints from Mayo so far this year, with 55 expected by the end of the year. It's facilities are currently at capacity.

"Whilst our time and efforts are free unfortunately our expenses are not and without the support of YOU the people of Mayo and beyond we cannot continue and have reached a critical time financially," North West SPCA stated.

"Our veterinary bills in our last audited year were in excess of €125,000. We understand everyone is feeling the impact of the cost of living crisis, but even a small donation can make a huge difference.

"We want to continue our essential work in Mayo and beyond, but without support we cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel. We don't want to have to close our doors to the countless animals needing our help. So please donate if you can, share our fundraiser- Animals don't have a voice , but we do so let's raise our voices together to help them."

North West SPCA is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers who give their time to help foster, adopt and transport animals in need and situations of distress.

They also trap, neuter and return (TNR) community cats in the Mayo region and beyond. It has two charity shops, one in Ballina and one in Castlebar.

All monies raised go directly to the care of the animals in need.
