Seven Mayo licensed premises nominated in the Bar of the Years awards

Nevin's Newfield Inn in Tiernaur has been nominated in three separate categories

The nominations for this year's Bar of the Year awards have been announced and seven different Mayo venues have been chosen from over 600 entries received.

Nevin's Newfield Inn in Tiernaur tops the Mayo list, having been nominated in three different categories, namely Visitor Attraction of the Year, Innovative Bar of the Year and Outside Space of the Year.

The Porter House on Bridge Street in Westport has been shortlisted for both the Tourist Bar of the Year and Best Live Entertainment Bar categories.

Two Mayo pubs are up for Traditional Bar of the Year, Paddy Mac's in Ballina and Cobbler's Bar on the Octagon in Westport.

JW's Brasserie at the Wyatt Hotel, also on the Octagon in Westport, has been shortlisted for Gastro Bar of the Year. The final two businesses from Mayo nominated for this year's awards are in the Late Bar/Nightclub of the Year category. They are Bar Square and Time Square Night Club in Ballina and Cosy Joe's Bar in Westport.

A spokesperson for the awards said: “With almost 600 submissions this year's Bar Awards have seen more entries than ever before, which made the judges decision even harder as the competition was even stronger. After intense deliberation only the best bars have been shortlisted as finalists. After months of rigorous evaluation and an exhaustive search for the most exceptional venues, we are thrilled to showcase the crème de la crème of the bar industry.

“We are thrilled to recognise the outstanding talents and remarkable establishments that have been selected as finalists for The Bar of the Year Awards. These individuals and venues have consistently raised the bar, delivering unparalleled experiences and pushing boundaries within the industry. We look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at the upcoming awards ceremony.”

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner hosted by broadcaster Anton Savage on Monday, August 21 in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin. For more, see https://baroftheyear.ie/
