Clare Islander wins car in hospice draw

Winner Sinead O'Malley receiving the keys of the car from Alan Mulroy alongside Mike Smith and Martina Jennings of Mayo Roscommon Hospice

Sinead O’Malley from Clare Island has won the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation’s car draw, in association with Mulroy’s Londis in Castlebar. Sinead takes home a Hyundai Kona Electric worth in the region of €45,000. Her name was drawn by Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation’s CEO Martina Jennings and Chairman Mike Smith and Alan Mulroy of Mulroys Londis who donated the car in a live Facebook draw on Friday night, June 30. Alan won the car at last year’s annual BWG Foods Trade Show. The draw saw a total of just over €150,000 raised for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

Celebrating 30 years of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, CEO Martina Jennings said:

“First of all, this draw wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Alan Mulroy. On behalf of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, I’d like to thank Alan for what he’s done for both the communities of Mayo and Roscommon. The money raised from the car draw will go towards funding, supporting and developing palliative care services, both in Mayo and Roscommon Hospices as well as their local communities. We are all delighted for Sinead O Malley who won this wonderful prize. I’d like to thank everyone who supported the draw.”

Londis Sales Director, Conor Hayes, paid tribute to the generosity of Alan Mulroy in supporting Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, commenting: “I want to commend Mulroy’s Londis for their commitment to Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation. This is a very worthy cause and it’s important to have this type of support in our communities. Londis is very proud to be associated with this worthy initiative and raising €150,000 is a marvellous achievement and something to be justifiably proud of.”

Also celebrating 30 years of Mulroy's Londis, Castlebar, Proprietor Alan Mulroy said: “I am overwhelmed by the amount raised for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation; it has exceeded all my expectations from when I first decided to donate the car. I’d like to pay tribute to all the staff and volunteers who sold tickets to the raffle because without them this fundraising initiative wouldn’t have been as successful. I’d like to wish Sinead and the O’Malley family the best of luck with their new car. Finally, thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket, the funds raised will, no doubt, go a long way in helping the patients during their palliative care journey.”

Winner of the Hyundai Kona Electric, Sinead O’Malley, said: “I am still in shock. I cannot believe I have won a car. I want to say a huge thank you to Alan Mulroy and his family from Mulroy’s in Castlebar for sponsoring the car to raise funds for such a worthy cause, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

“You don't really appreciate the incredible work of the Hospice until you walk through their doors. I cannot thank the Hospice in Castlebar enough for the wonderful care my aunt received while she was there. The support our family got during that time was very much appreciated.

“I’m so grateful for the warm welcome we received in Mulroy’s in Castlebar from Alan Mulroy and his family, Martina Jennings, Mike Smith and Marie McGuinness from Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation. It’s certainly a day I won't forget.”

The new Hyundai Kona Electric features an updated design, the very latest smart tech – and drives up to 484 km range on a single charge.
