Report on usage of new Town Hall to come before council
Michael Duffy
A REPORT on the usage of the ongoing Westport Town Hall project is to be furnished to the next meeting of Westport Town Council after a number of councillors maintained there was confusion among the general public with regard to the issue. The issue was raised by Cllr Michael McLaughlin when the Annual Financial Statement for 2009 was been discussed. Cllr McLaughlin said that the council had given serious financial commitment to the project and he said there seemed to be confusion as to who will allowed use the space once the project is finished. Cllr Brendan Mulroy said there was a perception that things would go back to the way they were in the town hall while Cllr Tereasa Magure said it was time for clarity on the issue and that it was important to clear ‘the shades of grey’. Cllr Keith Martin said he was a member of the Town Hall Committee and he said a report can be furnished on the up to date position with regard to the project at the next meeting of the council. Cathaoirleach of the council, Cllr Myles Staunton, said two councillors, Cllr Martin and former councillor, Declan Dever, had been appointed to the Town Hall committee and the matter could be put on the agenda of the May meeting to update everyone on where the project was at.
