A fracas at half-time in the Connacht U-21 football semi-final between Mayo and Roscommon has resulted in a heavy fine for both counties
TOUGH STUFF Mayo's Cathal Carolan and Roscommon's Eamonn Bannon get stuck in during the Connacht U-21 FC semi-final last week.
Mayo GAA Board fined after U-21 row
Mike Finnerty
Fines of €2,000 have been handed down to both the Mayo and Roscommon GAA Boards after an incident at half-time in last week’s Connacht U-21 FC semi-final. The Competitions Control Committee (CCC) of the Connacht GAA Council met with officials of both County Boards on Monday evening last in Ballyhaunis to investigate the incident. Mayo were represented by James Waldron (Chairman) and Sean Feeney (Secretary). The Mayo News understands that a fracas broke out as both teams made their way into the dressing-rooms at half-time at Hyde Park, Roscommon. It involved players from both teams and members of management. Meanwhile, at Monday night’s Mayo GAA Board meeting, James Waldron told club delegates that the U-21 incident ‘was in full swing’ when Sean Feeney and PRO Kevin O’Toole were going into the dressing-room. “It’s something we don’t stand for,” Waldron told the meeting. “It shouldn’t have happened.” The Mayo GAA Board are not expected to appeal the Connacht Council's decision.
