The ambitious plan to market Castlebar as a vibrant destination for short stay visitors took another step forward this week.
Castlebar marketing drive launched
Edwin McGreal Turlough Park
THE ambitious plan to market Castlebar as an attractive short stay destination took another step forward last Wednesday when the logo and tagline to launch the drive were unveiled at a reception at Turlough Park. The tagline ‘Castlebar, Everyone’s Invited’ and the circular ‘hub’ logo were unveiled by Castlebar Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Impact Media at Turlough Park. It is all part of a concerted bid from the Destination Castlebar committee, a sub-committee of the Chamber, bid to attract more visitor numbers to the county town. The areas of entertainment, shopping and culture are where the Destination Castlebar committee are focussing their drive on with the aim of getting overnight visitors to realise the many attractions of the town. “Short stay visitors will be our target market,” explained Padraig McGuinness, chairperson of the Destination Castlebar committee. “People who may come for the Blues Festival, for the walking festival, for a football match, a concert or business tourists. The plan is that we will be able to show to these people that Castlebar is a place where they can stay while doing these things and also taking in other attractions of the town. ”What we would envisage happening is that someone who might, for instance, come to the Royal Theatre for a concert and normally go home afterwards might stay over and then the following day perhaps go to the Museum, do some shopping or go for a spa treatment, that kind of thing.”
